The second round of the FIM Motocross World Championship took to The Circuito Moto Ranch at Cózar in southern Spain for the MXGP of Castilla La Mancha. Rainy conditions soaked the track for Sunday’s racing which created difficult, muddy conditions for every competitor. After two motos a piece, Tim Gajser and Liam Everts came away with the overall victories.

After Lucas Coenen crashed at the start line during race one, Spanish native Ruben Fernandez took over the early race lead. The Factory Honda HRC rider led early on before his teammate, Tim Gajser, began marching his way forward. Gajser opted for a drier inside line and made the move for the lead around Fernandez. From there, no one could touch the Slovenian as he ran away with the race win. Fernandez held on for a strong second place with Calvin Vlaanderen rounding out the podium.

Race two saw Pauls Jonass claim the holeshot with Coenen quickly taking over the lead on lap one. The KTM rider looked to rebound from a crash in race one but he fell once again in the early stages of the second moto. This mistake dropped him out of the lead as Gajser slipped by for the top spot. Gajser again showed his veteran prowess in the challenging conditions and cruised away with a 38-second lead. 1-1 finishes earned him a dominant overall win, the 50th of his career. Gajser now leads the points by 20 over Romain Febvre.

Glenn Coldenhoff went 4-3 to take second overall.

“It was a great weekend,” Gajser said. “Three out of three wins and two strong motos in really tough conditions. Yesterday’s qualifying race win was important for securing a good gate pick today. In the first race, I got a solid start, while in the second, I had to fight through the pack, but I was able to control the pace and get the job done.”

The MX2 riders saw the worst conditions of the weekend as rains virtually ruined the racing surface. Honda’s Ferruccio Zanchi managed to steal the holeshot and took off with the early lead on lap one.

2-1 finishes earned Everts his first overall win of the season in the MX2 division.

“I’m absolutely speechless,” Everts said. “Just six months ago, I was sitting on the couch, not knowing if I would ever race again. But I worked hard for this moment—I didn’t do it alone, and I’m grateful for the people who supported me along the way. It’s incredible to achieve this with my new team, and having our boss, here to see us go one-two makes it even more special.”
