Dustin Hoffman (KTM) captured the 2021 AMA Supermoto Championship at Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona, November 6-7, after S1GP protagonist Lukas Hollbacher (KTM) fell in the final race.
Hollbacher came into the event as the title favorite in a last-minute deal for KTM USA and for a while it looked as though the Austrian would head back to Europe with an easy Open Pro class number-one plate.
Pole position and three wins from three starts had Hoffman well and truly on the ropes, but a crash in the dirt section of the final race that saw Hollbacher’s front-brake master cylinder break off dropped him to 11th.
Hollbacher refused to give in despite having no front brake and charged back up to fifth by the flag, only to miss out on the title by a single point, 91-90, to Hoffman.
Shane Narbonne (Honda) picked up third in the Open Pro Championship on 82 points with a trio of third places and a second.
In the Pro Lites category, Nicky Reimer (Husqvarna) took a third, a second and two wins to seal the title ahead of Charles Buffman (Honda) and Austin Pecoraro (Honda).
The Amateur National class went to Mike Eller (Husqvarna) with two wins, a second and a third, and the Pro Open Asphalt title went to Andy DiBrino (KTM) with three wins and a second place.
In the Amateur Asphalt class, Parker Pitman (Ducati) took the win. CN
