BMW Motorcycles is the motorcycle division of German automobile giant BMW, known as BMW Motorrad. Manufacturing motorcycles since 1923 when they introduced the BMW R32, BMW instantly became known for the now-iconic BMW flat-twin boxer engine configuration. Often the leading European motorcycle manufacture in sales and revenue, BMW produces many models with their trademark flat-twin boxer engine. However, they produce produce multiple engine and motorcycle configurations for markets worldwide including scooters, sport bikes, classic and touring motorcycles.

BMW manufactures an intensively wide range of motorcycles from scooters to performance sport bikes to adventure travel machines. With a world traveling legacy and high-performance reputation, BMW is a premium motorcycle brand worldwide.

Headlining the BMW motorcycles family (and leading sales) are the GS models of adventure touring motorcycles, best know for their around-the-world exploits and all-terrain riding as the R1200GS and R1200GSA. The R platform (designated by the flat-twin boxer engine and shaft drive) expands to the performance sector with R1200R, R1200RT, R1200S and the new classic segment with the R nineT.

The G and F-series of BMW motorcycles are produced as smaller displacement adventure motorcycles in 700cc and 800cc as well as roadsters and touring models based on the same platforms. The K series of long-distance touring motorcycles claim the highest engine displacements up to 1600cc and come equipped with touring comfort and luggage systems built in.
