Cycle News teams with Aprilia for Pikes Peak—Team Cycle News will once again be a contestant in the Heavyweight Category for the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with a major change in that we’ll be teaming with Piaggio Group Americas and Aprilia.

Scaysbrook and the Aprilia Tuono 1100 should be a strong force on the mountain this year.

Our Road Test Editor Rennie Scaysbrook will be piloting a Tuono 1100 Factory in the classic event, as he attempts to go one better than he did in 2018, where he came up .069 seconds short of the overall victory.

The project will coincide with a number of stories and varied content here at Cycle News as we take a bone-stock Tuono and turn it into a Heavyweight contender to take on the likes of reigning champions Ducati.

“I am absolutely ecstatic to take on the PPIHC challenge with Aprilia,” said Scaysbrook. “I know the Tuono 1100 Factory is a jewel of a motorcycle and should prove a serious contender for the Heavyweight honors. I’ll be putting absolutely everything into this—I can’t wait to get started.”

We’ll have our first installment of the 2019 project coming next week in Cycle News. This is going to be a fun project!

Our first shakedown on the Aprilia at Fontana went extremely well but we have a lot of work to do to turn this into a real race bike.
