2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 First Look

The Aprilia Tuono V4 now has a baby brother in the all-new 2021 Tuono 660.

Based heavily on the fantastic RS 660 sportbike that was released for the 2021 model year (you can read our launch report here and watch the video here ), the Tuono 660 uses much of the same tech and mechanical components but in more comfortable nakedbike bodywork.

2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 First Look
Hello, sexy! The 2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 is certainly a looker…

At the heart is the same 659 cc parallel-twin four-stroke motor that pumps out a claimed 95 hp and 49 lb-ft of torque. This was a motor we absolutely loved in the RS thanks to its low-down torque and plenty of mid-range for a middleweight and should transfer perfectly to the nakedbike.

The twin-spar aluminum chassis is the same, as is the suspension with the rear shock working directly off the swingarm in a package weighing a claimed 403 lb curb.

The Tuono is packed with electronics in the same Aprilia Performance Ride Control system as on the RS that features eight-level traction control, wheelie control, cruise control, engine brake, ABS, and five selectable engine maps, with the electronics guided by information fed by a six-axis Continental Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). A three-stage headlight featuring Daytime Running Lights illuminate the ride.

Ready to travel.

Available in Concept Black, Iridium Grey and the same Acid Gold color of the RS, the Tuono is priced at $10,499 MSRP and will be in dealers by the end of Q1 2021. That puts it substantially more expensive than the bike that currently dominates the middleweight nakedbike class in the Yamaha MT-07, which retails for $7699 MSRP, although the MT doesn’t possess many of the electronic aids the Aprilia does.

The Tuono is now the second platform for Aprilia that uses the 660 cc twin, with the company’s first foray into mid-size adventure riding in the Tuareg 660 scheduled to be unveiled later this year.

We will have a test on the Aprilia Tuono 660 as soon as press units become available from Piaggio USA.
