After an inevitable downturn in the wake of the global recession (total 2011 sales were reportedly less than 150 bikes), Bimota made a big splash on its return to last November’s EICMA Milan Show after a two-years absence by presenting two cool-looking new streetbikes alongside its latest 600cc Honda-powered HB4 Moto2 GP racer – and a what-if Spanish-built two-stroke off-roader, with a four-stroke enduro next to it. After the personal tragedy of his wife’s passing caused him to take a back seat in running the company, pharmaceutical magnate Roberto Comini is now fully involved in Bimota once again and he’s funding the DB9 Brivido, a streetfighter based on the DB7 Superbike powered by Ducati’s eight-valve 1198 Testastretta motor, as well as another new member of Bimota’s air-cooled desmodue family.
